The Rehabilitation Patient Group (RPG) is the grouping methodology used to categorize data from completed episodes submitted by participating organizations to the National Rehabilitation Reporting System (NRS). Episode data is sorted into 1 of 83 groups according to clinical characteristics and estimated resource use.

Elements included:

  • SAS code and detailed flowcharts for the RPG logic (PDF format for the flowcharts, PDF and text formats for the code)
  • Test data as a comma-separated value (CSV) file
  • The RPG weights and trim points (CSV and PDF files)

Please note that the RPG grouping methodology and weights for 2018 - 2019 are the most up-to-date versions.

A revised version of the RPG grouping methodology for 2018 - 2019 was posted in March 2022.

  • The 2018 - 2019 RPG SAS code and flowchart were updated, specifically around the RCG codes used in RPG grouping. (See the SAS code appendix for details.)
  • The RPG weights and trim point values for 2018 - 2019 were updated from the 20172018 version.
