MIS Standards  Core

The newest version of the Standards for Management Information Systems in Canadian Health Service Organizations is known as the MIS Standards 2025.

This is a national set of standards used by health care systems to collect and report financial and statistical data about their operations. Health service organizations that use the standards include hospitals, long-term care homes, home care programs, community programs, mental health and addiction services, and primary care.

The MIS Standards 2025 will take effect April 1, 2025.

Use of the MIS Standards is governed by the Licence Agreement for MIS Standards 2025 (“Licence Agreement”). Use is limited to internal non-commercial use for the purposes of your own research, study and/or data collection and analysis and is subject to the restrictions identified in the Licence Agreement, such as the prohibitions against using the MIS Standards for commercial purposes or developing software that will be used for the collection or submission of data.

There are no licence restrictions on the number of users for the MIS Standards 2025.

If you do not or cannot agree to the Licence Agreement, you may not access, view, use or reproduce the MIS Standards. If you access, view, use or reproduce the MIS Standards, you are indicating that you have understood and agreed to the Licence Agreement.

Please note:

  • The MIS Standards is available for purchase, but Core Plan subscribers can obtain the MIS Standards 2025 for free. To find out whether your organization is a Core Plan subscriber, please send an email to help@cihi.ca.
  • Vendors, such as software developers, are required to purchase the MIS Standards through the Vendor Licensing Page and to sign the CIHI Health Information Standards and Specifications Agreement (HISSA). Vendors are to email help@cihi.ca in order to enter into the HISSA.

FAQ

The price you pay for an item depends on the type of organization to which you belong. Until you sign in, we do not know which price applies to you.

No. Regardless of the language in which the publication itself is available, the series screen provides a general description of the publications in that series and, for each edition, gives you the option of choosing the language and the media type (for example, paper or PDF) of the publication that you want. CIHI often publishes reports in both English and French, though there is sometimes a delay between the publication of the English version and the availablility of the French version. The series information will always be available in both English and French, even if the report itself is only available in one language.

If you want the downloadable version of an available publication and the price is free, as is often the case, you can simply download the file (usually a PDF) by clicking the Download link. If your browser does not support PDFs and you do not have a PDF viewer, you can download Adobe Acrobat Reader free of charge at Adobe.com. If the publication is not available in a downloadable media type or the price is not free, you will have to add it to your cart so that you can order it. You must be signed in before adding an item to your cart, so if you have not already done so, you will be redirected to the sign in screen.

If you wish to get more information about a publication before deciding to add it to your cart, click the View link under the Details column for the version of the publication that interests you. This will give you more detailed information about that particular publication.

The History link only appears on the top menu bar once you have signed in. To sign in, enter your username and password in the top-right corner of your screen.
