Self-harm and assault: A closer look at children and youth Core

Every year, hundreds of thousands of children and youth in Canada are injured at home, school and play. In 2013-2014, around 17,500 of them were hospitalized for injuries, and approximately 3,000 of these hospitalizations were for an intentional injury¿self-inflicted or caused by others.

You will find more details in the data tables below, along with the infosheets and public summary. They show available data on intentional assault and self-harm related hospitalizations and emergency department visits among children and youth, including comparisons by age and sex.
