This product describes the 34-group RUG-III grouping methodology through flowcharts and SAS code. This grouping methodology is meant to be used with Ontario long-term care data for all facilities submitting to the Continuing Care Reporting System (CCRS).
The Resource Utilization Group III (RUG-III) 34-group Case Mix Index (CMI) values for Ontario long-term care facilities are available as an appendix to the RUG-III grouping methodology. The CMI values are derived by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. These CMI values can be used along with the RUG-III grouping methodology flowcharts and SAS code, CCRS version, to assign each long-term care assessment to 1 of 34 Resource Utilization Groups.

The RUG-III 34-group grouping methodology may be used to support service planning and analysis of resource utilization at the facility, regional or provincial level in facility-based continuing care for long-term care facilities in Ontario.
