The Excel file ICD-10-CA and CCI Trending (Evolution), 2018 traces the heritage of a current code in the classifications (v2018) to a predecessor code in the previous version (v2015). The evolutions account for all addenda at the code level. If a title has changed, thus changing the meaning of the code, the information will be included. Inactive or deleted codes are also recorded, along with the new location of their content. Evolutions do not account for addenda at inclusion or exclusion notes. They do not include alphabetical index changes that may move an inclusion term between codes.
In addition to evolutions, the document houses a complete and comprehensive list of the ICD-10-CA diagnosis codes and CCI intervention codes, along with their respective long and short code titles, as they exist in v2018. The document is useful as a quick guide to understanding macro changes within the classifications (i.e., historical categorization of a condition or intervention). The document assists with data retrieval from one version of the classification to the next. However, for research purposes, the individual diagnosis or intervention should be plotted for each year the data is retrieved.
