Health Indicators aim to support Regional Health Authorities in monitoring the health of their population and the functioning of their local health system through quality comparative information on:
Health Indicators 2009 Health Indicators 2009 is the tenth in a series of annual reports containing the most recently available health indicators data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information and Statistics Canada. As always, this report presents indicators measuring factors associated with the health of Canadians and the health system. This information is provided for Canada’s health regions with a population of at least 50,000, encompassing approximately 98% of the population, as well as provinces and territories. In addition, a selected set of indicators for health regions with a population ranging from 20,000 to 50,000 is reported in the Health Indicators e-Publication. In view of the 10-year anniversary, this issue of the report also presents national trends over time for selected indicators focusing on the following six themes: heart attacks and cardiac revascularization; stroke; women’s health and men’s health—selected surgical procedures; hip fractures; joint replacements; and preventing hospital admissions. The aim of this information is to assist stakeholders and decision makers in the use and interpretation of the indicator data.

CIHI has recently improved the look-and-feel and functionality of the way its indicators are retrieved and queried. Now, using the Health Indicators e-publication to explore CIHI’s health indicators is easier and more dynamic than before. New features include a more user-friendly interface and the ability to capture and present data in customized tables and graphs.
